How Does EMDR Work?

The therapy involves eight phases, centering around the client recalling a traumatic memory while the therapist directs their eye movements (or uses other bilateral stimulation methods like hand-tapping or audio stimulation). This process is believed to work by “unfreezing” the brain’s information processing system, which is interrupted in times of extreme stress.
